The World Economic Forum, commonly called "Davos", gets underway this week. The mission statement of the annual confab is to "improve the state of the world by engaging business, political and academic leaders to shape global, regional and industry agendas." heady stuff, but ya, let's do that.
I like to call the conference Sundance festival for Geeks, or more directly, Plutocrats in the Snow. The rise in Davos popularity and influence is a road map to the ugly mess of private risk morphing to public loss. Well meaning objectives are corrupted by the unintended consequences of good intentions. The courting of the financial industry and agenda-leaning incentives have pushed the system to the quasi-nationalized somnambulist creature ravaging the globe today.
I urge you to go to the website;
http://www.weforum.org/content/pages/call-action and read the spirited "call to action" agenda. At the same time, recall the equally high minded "calls" that led us to this crisis. The road to ruin IS paved in good intentions. Beware of Plutocrats in the Snow.
